Liverpool were beaten by Nottingham Forest at Anfield in a shock Premier League result this weekend.
The Reds suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest side, who won thanks to a goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Forest scored on a counter-attack against Arne Slot’s Liverpool to inflict the new Reds manager’s first defeat of the season.
After winning their first three games in charge of the club, this defeat would be difficult for the manager, players and fans to swallow.
Virgil Van Dijk has spoken of his concerns after the 1-0 defeat, saying the contrast between the games they played was too great.
talking with Official Liverpool websitethe centre-back claimed the defeat against Forest is a reality check for his team.
Van Dijk said:
“Overall it was a disappointing afternoon, something we didn’t want to happen, but we have to turn it around and make it a bit of a reality check to be better for the rest of the season because if you want achieve things this season, The contrast between the games we played is too great.”
Slot would be worried about his players’ performance at Anfield against Forest.
The Reds had no desire to score a goal, that’s how plain they looked in front of a disciplined Forest.
The biggest tests await Liverpool in the next few games
Mohamed Salah was struggling to impact the game, perhaps trying too hard and his overthinking in simple situations didn’t help the Reds.
Slot’s side will face Bournemouth at Anfield in the Premier League, but before that they must travel to Milan to face AC Milan in the Champions League in midweek.
Now the games will be intense and fast and the depth of Liverpool’s squad will be tested in the coming games.
