Aaron Ramsdale says he holds no hard feelings towards Mikel Arteta following his “difficult” exit from Arsenal this summer.
Ramsdale was a regular during his first two seasons at the Emirates, making 78 appearances in all competitions during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns combined and quickly became a popular figure with the supporters.
However, the five-time England international was surprisingly relegated to substitute status following Raya’s arrival on loan from Brentford last summer, making just 11 appearances in all competitions and just six in the Premier League League.
With Raya’s loan made permanent, there was little chance of Ramsdale’s situation improving, so the 26-year-old will now look to get his career back on track at St. Mary’s with Saints completing a £25m transfer (per BBC Sports).

Ramsdale opens with Arsenal exit and Arteta’s relationship
Ramsdale was asked during an interview with talkSPORT if there is any bitterness about how his Arsenal career ended, but the goalkeeper took a very different view.
“No, I’ve been in football long enough that the coach’s decision is the coach’s decision. I did my best to change my mind and force myself back inside. His mind was set, and at the same time, David had a great season,” Ramsdale said.
“You can have all the discomfort or qualms about being taken out, but when someone else delivers to you, you just have to take it on the chin. It was tough, but I’ve found a new home and I’m looking forward to playing again. You move on, there is no bad blood and you have to restart your career.
“It was a very difficult season, but with my character and personality, I started the game enjoying it, but when you get out of it, it’s hard. So, unfortunately, you have to move on, but I’m happy with where I am now.”
Ramsdale emphasized that he maintains a strong relationship with Arteta, with whom he remains in contact.
“What he did for me during my time at Arsenal, I can only thank him and he thanked me for my contribution,” continued Ramsdale.
“As a football club, going back to the Champions League and pushing for a trophy and ultimately, as managers do, they often make decisions that upset people. He made that decision, but we still talk.
“I’m looking forward to some games here. We’ll be playing them in a few weeks, which will be a good return.”
