They and Usta announced a common mission to increase tennis particles.
The Tennis Association of Usta and America announced a new initiative that reflects their common mission to increase participation, maintenance and leadership opportunities between different tennis communities.
The foundation of this new initiative includes “increasing black representation in tennis, a mentoring program that develops pipelines of different professionals in training and tennis careers, and the inspiration of future generations to participate in the sport,” Usta said in a partnership statement.
The oldest African-American sports organization in the United States, they were founded in 1916 by a group of African-American businessmen, college professors and doctors in response to the exclusion of black players from the SH.BA (USTA predecessor) injury association organized with White Players.
Today, they continue to develop and promote opportunities through tennis in different communities.
Through this collaboration, Usta and they will create a new series of events called “Prelud for them Nationals”, which aims to improve players holding and expands competitive opportunities for young people throughout the year. The series, which is open to everyone, began last weekend in Dallas and is planned to continue in Washington, DC (May 23-25), Atlanta (June 6-8) and Houston (June 28-29).
Eventual event will show a day of social adults, community game, tour game and culminate in the national championship. The national championship they are a historic tennis tour that brings hundreds of players of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities to compete in a national scene. The tournament also contains network events, educational sessions and ACE Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that have made important contributions to ensure that tennis is accessible to all.
The National Championship of 2025 will be held from July 28 to August 3 at the Usta National Campus in Orlando, FL.
