Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Rinku Singh hit Yash Dayal for five sixes in the final over when 28 runs were required off five deliveries in IPL 2023. It was one of the disappointing moments in Dayal’s cricket career. He finished the IPL 2023 season with just two wickets and an economy rate of 11.79.

However, Yash Dayal rose in rank after the incident. The left-arm pacer has earned his maiden call-up from the Indian team for the upcoming first Test of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He is one of the four pacers in the squad along with Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah.

Chanderpal Dayal recalled the days after the IPL 2023 incident in which Rinku Singh hit his son for five sixes. He mentioned how children would taunt him with chants of “Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes”.

“Humare liye woh ek hadsa tha (it was like an accident for us),” Chanderpal, a retired officer of the Accountant General’s Office in Allahabad, told PTI.

“The school bus would go by and the kids would shout, ‘Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five six.’ It was so painful – why did this happen to my son? he added.

Yash Dayal and his mother Radha were affected by the incident. Radha was so distressed that she became ill and refused to eat. Chanderpal said Yash had to rebuild his career after being released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League.

“His mother, Radha, was so worried that he fell ill and refused food as Yash entered the shell. The Titans also let him go because he had to rebuild his career,” recalled Chanderpal.
