Now Scott Styris has made a similar statement regarding Rohit Sharma. Styris and Rohit played together for Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They were teammates in the 2008 and 2009 IPL seasons and won the championship together.
In a recent interaction, Scott Styris revealed that when he saw Rohit Sharma for the first time at Deccan Chargers, he knew the corpse was special. He went on to reveal his interaction with Indian captain Rohit Sharma during India’s recent tour to Sri Lanka 2024, saying that Rohit is still the same guy he was 16 years ago.
“It (IPL 2008) was my first opportunity to be a teammate and see (and hear) Rohit Sharma. He was with us at Deccan Chargers. He was 19 or 20 then and I could see that this Kid was something special, I came back from Sri Lanka where I commented on India vs Sri Lanka, I met him there and he’s still the same person he was 16 years ago,” Styris told cricket.com.
It should be noted that India suffered a shocking 0-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the tour. India fielded a full-strength squad against the Lankan Lions, but a poor show from the batsmen saw India lose their last two matches.

Scott Styris then spoke about Deccan Chargers and said that despite having a star-studded team in the first edition of the IPL, they finished last due to poor balance in the squad.
“The first year we were really favorites to win and we came last. Part of that was because we didn’t have a great balance sheet. We had great names on paper, but you’re only allowed to play four overseas.
“We’d either load the batting and the bowling would be poor or we’d load the bowling and the batting would be poor. When we tried to load it with all-rounders, we were a bit over…and-pieces and not strong enough in either and it ended,” Scott said. Styris.
However, Deccan Chargers won the IPL trophy in 2009 under the leadership of Adam Gilchrist defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 6 runs at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Rohit Sharma also played a key role in the win as he scored 24 runs with the bat to help his team to a good total.
