control each week For the unjustified thoughts of our writers and editors as they break down the hottest themes in this sport, and join in the conversation by tweeting us to us in @golf_com. This week, we discuss Justin Thomas’s letter to its tour members, a solution to the pace of PGA Tour game issues and the return of Scottie Scheffler into action.
1 Is officially The player championship weekwith Scottie Scheffler heading the field in the TPC Sawgrass Stadium course. He has won the last two years, how many bullies are you in a scottie peat with three peat?
James Colgan, the editor of news and features (@Jamescolgan26) :: Bullish !!! The game has no quite They have been there for Scottie so far in ’25, but looked closer to Bay Hill than at any point since Pebble Beach. The ball hit is still there, the ruthlessness is still there. Now he has had a month to shake the rust of the famous day of Christmas Ravioli. Call that Spaghetti Scottie in Ponte Vedra-I think he is hitting him long and enough to close three-in-one.
Josh Berhow, managing editor (@Josh_berHow)): A few people you can say about this, but he is loved, is he not? (He won for the last time in December.) He has been strong this year simply did not have everything by clicking immediately. I hope he pretends because it is a great scenario to see to unfold next week.
Seduce sense (@Jossens)) He will rightly be the favorite – and I expect him to be in the mix – but three in a row is very strange to bet, even for Scheffler, especially in a course that has historically allowed for so many different game styles.
What is a scenario you are monitoring in players?
Colgan: We have a return of liv golf !!! Laurie Canter played his way back to a great professional Golf after leaving for Liv, and played well enough to win a late invitation on the field. As far as I can say, this is the first time a current or former -Liv player will have returned to a PGA Tour event. I am intrigued by his performance.
graft: Jay Monahan’s annual state of union oppressive. Part of me thinks there will not be much updating on the state of the Pro Golf Union, but another part of me thinks people deserve some sincere answers. This is long enough. Oh, and par-5 16 is a hole I like very much, but it is overlooked because it precedes the par-3 17. So I think I’m excited to see it and golf.
Sense: Xander Schauffle does not have a great record for players – not from his standards anyway. He is just going from an injury and working on the longest bar made from cuttings on the tournament. I am curious to see if he keeps that belt alive, and what kind of form is his game while we work towards the masters and meat of the season.

2 Russell Henley scored for Eagle in the 16th hole to win Arnold Palmer Invitational, beating the partner playing Collin Morikawa from one. Did Henley win, or lost Morikawa?
Colgan: Henley won it, but man, Morikawa will reproduce some of those layers in his mind on Jacksonville’s journey. I feel about Colli – he has been one of the three best living players in the last 16 months, and he has no victory to tell him.
graft: It can be a few of the two. Morikawa was one of the nine rear and that’s not how you close golf tournaments, especially when leading with three on the other. You can argue that Henley was lucky with his Eagle chip at 16 (who would have sailed well by passing the hole if he did not hit the flag) but he also had to be aggressive. Plus, after a trick in 10, he had birds in 12 and 14 BEFORE that eagle. Three below the back which included two textbooks, Smart with two Putt Pars at 17 and 18? Henley hat tip.
Sense: Henley won it with help from the golf gods. Undoubtedly Morikawa could play the Willa-Coulda-Soulda game, but I don’t think he will live for a long time and he will return immediately to strip him of the Sawgrass. Talk about a good candidate to disrupt Scheffler’s attempt in a three peat peat.

Also in Bay Hill, Keegan Bradley has his own The best end of the season with a tie for the fifth. While he is not yet close to the Ryder Cup vehicle qualification status, he previously said as captain, he would give up that concert if he qualified for the team. We still have a lot of time to solve all this, but if Bradley keeps it up, who would you choose to replace it?
Colgan: Will first clean the visible choice: Rick Pitino. In all seriousness, it seems clear that Furyk would take the first blow to him given his leadership experience, but I love the idea of calling Tiger from the bench to raise boys. If not, I’m sure Phil is available.
graft: Furyk is already one of the captains of the deputy and looks like the clear answer because of his experience, especially as anyone who can replace Kengan will have less time at the top. James is right, Tiger would be a wonderful filling, but he refused this first because he couldn’t do as long as he wanted. So it is unlikely that he would take the concert with even less time to plan. Bummer.
Sense: Do Bradley Rules allow to make themselves a captain’s choice? That would be fun. Furyk would be the natural replacement, and they could make him official at a press conference, where Bradley, making his bunny best bugs, says Furyk, “I’m captain and I say you’re captain.”

Phil Mickelson ended the third in Liv Hong Kong to record his best Liv’s completion of his career. Earlier during the week he spoke of a new, more conservative strategy, and on Sunday he added, “I really had a great season and I understood some things. I’m playing a different golf style.” Can a 54-year-old Mickelson still fight the masters?
Colgan: Of course! If someone over the age of 50 can fight anywhere in the Golf world, is in Augusta, where Golf IQ ranks much higher than ballspeed in the list of traits needed. But Mickelson’s acceptance Saturday that he could not “prevail” a golf course was discovering his psyche in another 50-plus triumph.
graft: Mickelson said he no longer worried about hitting the bombs and, on the contrary, was focusing on limiting mistakes. I remember saying years ago he plays well Augusta National because he knows where to lose. This has not changed. He was tied for the second only two years ago!
Sense: No doubt he can fight. However, more than anything, his comments are a reminder of what makes golf such a game of a game. Mickelson has played Golf as he could do Toddle. He has won six degrees. And he is still trying to understand things.

Grab your control books: a $ 9 million at home right in the old course Just set up for sale on St. Andrews. If you can buy any kind of golf dormitory property in the world, where are you going?
Colgan: Maybe the one overlooking the Swilcan bridge. But if not him, maybe one of the homes overlooking the western course on the Royal Melbourne. Be warned, however, if I ever find the money to buy such a home, you will never hear from me again.
graft: There is a course called Antstruer Golf Club 10 miles south of St. Andrews, and its ninth hole is lined up with about a dozen house with their yards in front of the road and looking toward the sea. I played there during Open in 2022 and I remember thinking that, right there, it’s where I want to live one day. Maybe there is still a chance.
Sense: There is a beautiful house in Bluffs only north of Sheep Ranch in the bandon Dunes that has unspoiled views up and down the Oregon coast. I would get it. But if the fairy tales I have heard are true, the owner there already refused to sell at the resort, so I don’t expect it to go to the market at any time soon.
