When Aldrich Potgieter heats up, almost no course is safe.
The ability of 20-year-old PGA Tour Rookie to promote hot was on the full screen on Friday during the second round at 2025 Open Mexico on Vidantaworld. South Africa production came to 29, including five birds right to close its front side. With three before 5s before him in the nine back in Vidanta Vallarta, Potgieter had a chance to shoot 59 and became the first player to shoot in the 50s in both PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour. Potgieter shot 59 in the second round of the Astara 2024 Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia.
But the story was not on the cards as Potgieter only made one of three par 5s in the back and rose to shoot a 10 sub-pp 61. However, the only par-5 Birdie Potgieter charged at nine rear was impressive. He hit his car in 661-Oborret par 5 331 yards. Potgieter struck the driver off the deck for his second, hitting him 323 yards in green, which gave him 22 meters for a light bird with two putt.
While Potgieter lost to joining the 59 PGA Tour club, his 61 placed him in an exclusive list.
For Golf Statistics Guru Justin Ray, Potgieter became only the fourth PGA Tour player in the last 40 years to shoot 61 or lower before the age of 21. Patrick Cantlay (60 in the 2011 travelers championship), Tom Kim (61 in 2022 WynDham Championship) and Nick Dunlap (60 in 2024 American Express) are others.
“Started really well with five birds in nine in front and it helped a lot to get momentar,” Potgieter said after his round. “Make a really good chip for par 10 (after running it in the water) to continue the moment. I knew at nine back that there was some par 5s – three par 5s that I still had available to me. I just tried to bird they all three and come up with a good result. Yes, he made some bonus birds and did not make the par 5s, which were unfortunate. Yes, really happy with today. ”

Potgieter lost cutting in his first two beginnings as a professional before leaving the Farmers Insurance Open with a 67 -round round that introduced it into the last group. However, Potgieter melted Sunday, shooting a 78 last round to end up in a tie for the 15th.
The New South Africa will require another result this weekend at Vidanta Vallarta. Potgieter knows that even if he does not hold on his four -stroke bullet During the weekend, a good result would be a massive help for his chances of holding his card.
“Last year (at the Korn Ferry tour). I had that win early, played quite well at the beginning of the year, and then disappeared a little. I don’t want to be in the position of playing for my card in the last event of the year again, ”Potgieter said, referring to his 29th place in KFT despite the Great Abaco Classic winning. “Yes, just trying to put a good result this week and keep the momentum going forward for the next weeks.”
