Oscar Duarte received some bad news today with regis Prograis suffering a shoulder injury, and pulled out of their headline battle at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on February 15.
He will be off the map unless Golden Boy can find a quick replacement to face the light welterweight duarts in the main event. What a shame, because it was the one bright clash on this Dazn event.
Prograis -Injury
The co-function on the map is the super-middleweight Darius Fulghum against Winfred Harris. If Golden Boy promoters want to save the event, they can move the game in the main event and maybe not care.
The ring Reports that the former two-time 140-pound champion Prograis (29-3, 24 COs) sustained an injury. Prograis are 36, so it is surprising that he was hurt in training.
Regis lost his last two battles and has been winless since his dubious 12-round decided two years ago against Danielito Zorrilla on June 17, 2023. Many fans believe that Prograis also lost the battle.
Golden Boy hoped that Duarte (28-2-1, 22 COs) would use this battle against Prograis to showcase his skills to make his third direct victory to place him for a title shot.
Promoters should always have a backup on hand if they use older fighters in the headlist or fellow Feature location. The chances that they will not get it through the training camp without pulling out are too high to not let anyone wait to step in.
Given how poorly regised in his last three fights, it should not be difficult for Golden Boy to find someone to replace him with equal talent. The only problem with this is that Duarte would not have much time to prepare for the fighter. The last thing Oscar de la Hoya wants is that Duarte must be beaten again and rebuilt all the hard work to rebuild him.
Since losing against Ryan Garcia by an eighth round in December 2023, Duarte, 29, has won his last two fights and beat Joseph Diaz and Botirzhon Akhmedov.
