Records were broken in Match 31 of Big Bash League 2024-25 between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat. The forwards put a big score on the board after the first snap.
Skipper Matthew Short came out in front and closed his eyes. He hit 109 off 54 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes to record the fastest ton for the Adelaide Strikers. On the other hand, it was an evening to forget for the Brisbane Heat bowlers. They conceded over 250 runs in the innings and conceded the second highest BBL score in the history of the tournament.

It was the first time in the history of the Big Bash League that every bowler conceded more than 40 runs in an innings. Brisbane Heat captain Colin Munro used five bowlers.
All the bowlers bowled four overs each, with three of them conceding 50 or more runs in their spell. Left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3-50 from his four overs.
Fast bowlers Michael Neser and Xavier Bartlett finished with identical figures of 0-53 in four overs. Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson batted well and finished with 2-41, while left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson had figures of 0-45 in his spell.

Adelaide Strikers scored 251-5 in their allotted 20 overs, the second highest total in Big Bash League history. The record for the highest BBL score is still held by the Melbourne Stars on 19 January 2022 against the Hobart Hurricanes.
They were bowled out for 232-2 by Sydney Thunder against the Sydney Sixers on 22 January 2021. Matthew Short played blindly and took the lead. Chris Lynn and Alex Ross completed them with excellent shots.
Brilliant performance from Adelaide Strikers in BBL match
Meanwhile, it was a brilliant batting performance from the Adelaide Strikers who took full advantage of the good batting conditions at Adelaide Oval. Captain Matthew Short smashed a whirlwind century while Chris Lynn opened the innings with 47 off 20 balls.
Lynn hit 5 fours and 3 sixes during the innings. Short and Lynn put on 121 runs in just 8.5 overs during the first innings. Alex Ross went down the order and smashed 44 off 19 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.
In reply, Brisbane Heat started well but the score was too big for them. Their batting got off to a flying start but couldn’t sustain the big score. Nathan McSweeney smashed a perfect 43 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 1 six, while Matt Renshaw smashed 34 off 16 balls with 14 and 3 sixes.
