Out-of-class Manchester United have a nightmare start to the New Year as they travel to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Red Devils have lost their last four games in all competitions and are struggling to adapt to life under new manager Ruben Amorim. League leaders and fierce enemies of Man Utd Liverpool could heap more misery on them this weekend.
Injuries have been a problem for Man Utd this season and they are still without some key players, although the treatment room has been emptied over the last month.
Here are the Man Utd players missing for weekend clash on Merseyside.
Marcus Rashford’s future appears to be away from Old Trafford as the winger has been exiled in recent weeks after disciplinary matters i a public interview gone wrong. However, the academy product featured in the squad that dismantled Newcastle United last Monday, although he did not set foot on the pitch.
Rashford has a good record against Liverpool and could have lined up for a few minutes at Anfield, but illness means he will not be available for selection. With the January transfer window open, he may have played his last game for the club.
Mason Mount has had rotten luck with injuries since swapping Chelsea for Man Utd and the midfielder is out again. After winning favor with Amorim, the 25-year-old picked up a muscle injury during the Manchester derby.
Mount is expected to return in the coming weeks but will not be available against Liverpool, a club who were interested in signing him before his nightmare move to Old Trafford.
Like compatriot Mount, left-back Luke Shaw just can’t keep fit. The Englishman missed the opening months of the campaign after suffering an injury setback following Euro 2024 and only made his first appearance for the Red Devils on Amorim’s debut against Ipswich Town.
However, after making just three appearances, Shaw suffered another injury blow, ruling him out of the trip to Anfield on Sunday.
Victor Lindelof is another who has rarely featured this season due to nagging and nagging injuries, with the Swede also absent this weekend. He was last seen in the drama Defeat 4-3 in the Carabao Cup at Tottenham Hotspur but suffered a further injury in north London.
No official timeframe has been set for Lindelof’s return, but the centre-back would have been unlikely to start at Anfield regardless.
