The New York Yankees have had an offseason filled with frustration and excitement so far.
After they lost their star outfielder and this year’s top free agent, Juan Soto, when he signed with the New York Mets, the Yankees felt heartbroken.
While they weren’t able to bring Soto back, the Yankees turned things around by signing several key items on their roster for the 2025 season.
Those signings did not include their second baseman Gleyber Torres, however, as he ended up signing with the Detroit Tigers.
According to MLB insider Brian Hoch of B/R Walk-Off via “X,” Torres said he never received an offer from the Yankees in free agency.

After letting go of Soto, the Yankees signed free agent starting pitcher Max Fried from the Atlanta Braves and also traded for reliever Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers and Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.
The Yankees reportedly never even offered Torres a deal this offseason, which is surprising since Torres has been playing for the team since entering the 2018 majors.
In 2024, Torres played 154 games for the Yankees, where he batted .257 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI and a .709 OPS.
The Yankees weren’t interested in bringing Torres back, and it’s interesting to see why.
While Torres got a good deal with the Tigers, he may have been a little hurt by the Yankees for not even offering him a deal.
The Yankees will try to return to the World Series in 2025, but they will have to do so without their leadoff hitter starting in 2024.
