Pep Guardiola raises the challenge of Erling Haaland to end the fall of Man City

Pep Guardiola has urged his Manchester City squad to change the way they use striker Erling Haaland to end their miserable run of form.

City have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions and have fallen to seventh in the Premier League table, with Haaland also enduring his own difficult spell in front of goal.

The Norwegian has scored just three goals in his last 12 Premier League games, having scored ten in the previous five games, and Guardiola admitted that City need to adapt their approach to scoring goals.

“It’s about us, not just one player,” Guardiola said. “When Erling was so prolific, it was about us, the team. But when you have problems at the back and in the middle, it’s all about the team. Not just one player. If it was just one player, it would be easy see why it’s not about that.

“Erling is so important to us and will be so important to us. We have to use him better.”

Guardiola admitted he is still looking for a solution cityHis upset, but he credited his players for working tirelessly to try and pull the team out of their current slump.

“This situation is new to all of us,” he continued. “It’s about us, all of us. The guys are running and pushing harder than ever.

“People say we’re not running, fighting, it’s this player, this coach, it’s not about that. It’s about a lot of small details or some big details that make us not as good as we were. But we have another chance at Boxing Day.

“We have players coming back and at a certain point we will be better.”
