Writing for his column in the Sydney Morning Herald, Greg Chappell revealed the reason why Travis Head has succeeded against Jasprit Bumrah while other players have struggled. Chappell claimed that Head treated Bumrah like any other bowler and deliberately bowled him, which disrupted Bumrah’s rhythm.
“(Travis) Head’s performances against Jasprit Bumrah in this series are an example of his fearless approach. While most batsmen struggled to survive Bumrah’s extraordinary movement, blistering pace and relentless accuracy, Head treated him like any other bowler,” Chappell wrote.
“By playing with intent and trying to hit Bumrah, Head not only eliminated his threat but also disrupted his rhythm. His ability to send short deliveries with authority and control the fuller ones with precision was remarkable and highlighted his strides,” he added.
Travis Head’s impressive numbers against Jasprit Bumrah
Travis Head has so far scored 409 runs in three Tests at an average of 81.80 with two hundreds and one fifty. Interestingly, he scored all his runs at a strike rate of 94.23.
Although Bumrah has taken 21 wickets in three Tests and troubled almost every Australian batsman so far, he has an average record against Head. The star Australian scored 83 runs off Bumrah in an innings of 91.2 and has been dismissed just twice so far.
