Cody Gakpo has admitted he is willing to continue working alongside Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, and has urged the Egyptian to sign a contract extension.
Salah is approaching the final six months of his current deal and will be free to discuss a contract with foreign clubs within days, with several of the world’s richest sides said to be lining up offers.
Liverpool they hope to keep Salah but have yet to agree on new terms. The 32-year-old recently confirmed that there was no updates to provide on his future after the 6-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
That game saw Salah move into fourth place in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring charts, and Gakpo admitted he hopes to see Salah rack up the goals at Anfield for years to come.
“It’s very special what we’re all witnessing,” he said average club. “The amount of goals he scores, but also the assists he gives, the way he plays, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like me in a position to score and be dangerous is at a high level.
“I hope for him and for us that he can continue to do this for a long time. We’re very fortunate to have him and proud to be his teammate and try to make him better. And he’s trying to- we get better as well.”
January could be a nervous period for Liverpool, with Salah free to discuss an exit alongside centre-back Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Like Salah, Van Dijk recently confirmed he had no updates to offer, however he refused to put a deadline on his negotiations.
