Major League Baseball’s offseason seems to bring new signings every day as teams scrutinize the last big-name players left in the free agent class.
There has been a lot of recent movement in the particular position, but one big-time bull remains within reach.
Many teams have acquired new first basemen for their rosters this offseason, but Pete Alonso of the New York Mets remains unsigned and available through free agency.
MLB analyst Harold Reynolds identified two teams that would make sense for Alonso to sign.
“Seattle obviously needs an upgrade, I can see that, I can see the Mets,” Reynolds said on MLB Network’s “X.”

Alonso, now 30, remains unsigned after another good year with the Mets in 2024.
The right-handed power hitter played in all 162 games in 2024 and hit .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.
One of the reasons Reynolds believes he remains unsigned has to do with the amount of money Alonso wants in a new contract.
While many teams could probably afford to sign Alonso, no one has pulled the trigger so far.
The Mariners have been in the news a lot recently about the need for a major offensive upgrade, but the question remains, are they willing to give Alonso the money he’s asking for?
Alonso will be the first baseman to look to as the offseason moves forward and availability at the position dwindles.
