Jamie Carragher has criticized Tottenham star Djed Spence

Tottenham suffered a humiliating defeat against Premier League leaders Liverpool at the weekend.

Ange Postecoglou’s side lost again, this time to Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, who were inspired by Mohamed Salah to secure a memorable victory.

Liverpool won the match 6-3, with Salah scoring and assisting twice, putting in one of his best performances of the season.

The Egyptian striker has now scored 15 league goals and provided 11 assists in just 16 games this season.

It was another game that showed Tottenham’s defense needs a lot of work if they are to achieve their goals this season.

The recent game against Chelsea was another example of how the north London side suffered when under pressure from the opposition.

Jamie Carragher was particularly critical of Tottenham defender Djed Spence for his performance against Liverpool.

Spence chased Trent Alexander-Arnold into the Liverpool half which left Tottenham’s defense open and allowed Salah to find Dominik Szoboszlai who scored easily against Spurs.

The pundit said the player should have realized it wasn’t the best choice to press so high at the time.

Tottenham are eyeing a deal for the playmaker

Carragher told Sky Sports, as reported Football TBR:

“Look at your left back going to the press, you don’t! You stay at left back, Archie Gray is dragged, Dragusin is in no man’s land and before you know it, it’s three against two. That doesn’t want to say you’re not attacking like the manager says is to use your brain.”

“Don’t forget he’s on the manager’s side. For me, that left-back decision, you could say he’s just made the decision, but if your manager has been there for 18 months, those messages have to be delivered every day.

“He never gets there, he’s done about 40 yards, he leaves an 18-year-old behind, you’ve got to take care of a kid, he’s not even a center and he’s 18. If you do that. a minute before the break is absolutely incredible.”

Ange Postecoglou must change tactics at Tottenham

The manager likes to play attacking football and it has been a breath of fresh air to see Tottenham play like that, but the players have to pick their moments.

You can’t play extreme attacking football all the time. It also depends on the players you have available at the time.

The north London club are currently without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven which has left their defense wide open recently.

In the absence of these two players, the defense would have to be given more protection and the offensive side of the game would have to be compromised to some extent in order to produce results.

It is because of this style of play that Spurs have struggled to get consistent results all season and it is all down to the manager.
