As the Major League Baseball offseason continues, there is plenty of talk surrounding the free agent class as well as potential trade candidates.
Most eyes and attention will be on Juan Soto and where he decides to play in 2025, but there are plenty of other big-name players who could change the team.
While this year’s free agent class is loaded with talent, there are also rumors of teams trading away some of their key players.
MLB analyst John Morosi mentions two teams to watch that could potentially make a trade this offseason.
“That possibility of the Chicago Cubs and the Seattle Mariners is very real as we get closer to the Winter Meetings,” Morosi said via the “X” MLB Network.

Among the players Morozzi names are outfielder Cody Bellinger and second baseman Nico Herner of the Cubs.
Morosi points out the need for these positions for the Mariners and also that the Mariners have elite starting pieces on their roster that they can use to trade up.
Hoerner entered the league with the Cubs in 2019 and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the club.
In 2024, Hoerner played 151 games and hit .273 with seven home runs, 48 RBI and a .708 OPS.
Bellinger entered the league in 2017 with the Dodgers and is a past Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award.
In 2024, Bellinger played 130 games for the Cubs and hit .266 with 18 home runs, 78 RBI and a .751 OPS.
It appears the Cubs are very willing to part with some of their players this offseason, and the Mariners could be the perfect team to complete a deal with.
