Major League Baseball’s offseason keeps getting more interesting as rumors of free agents and trade talks continue to circulate.
With most of the attention focused on New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto, another Yankee free agent is drawing interest.
Relief pitcher Clay Holmes had an uptick in 2024 as he began the year as their closer, but he was eventually demoted after struggling during the season.
Even so, Holmes is drawing interest, but there is a twist as he is reportedly ready to become a starting pitcher.
“Sure, he was a starter. But maybe your value, and maybe you see yourself best as a reliever,” insider Ken Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory .

Rosenthal says Holmes is open to any role, so an interested team can use him in any way.
There have been several relief pitchers who have recently become starting pitchers, including Seth Lugo, Jordan Hicks and Reynaldo Lopez.
Even with the occasional struggles in 2024, Holmes still had a productive year for the Yankees.
The right-hander played in 67 games, all outfield, and was 3-5 with a 3.14 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 63.0 innings.
This news will be worth watching to see who ends up signing Holmes and if they use him as a starter or a reliever.
Holmes is a two-time All-Star who has shown he can be a shutdown closer, and it will all depend on which team wants to take a chance on him.
