Victoria Garces and Juan Gonzalez take first place at the 45th Annual Foot Locker XC Championships at the Midwest Regional.


The cold, sunny day didn’t stop the beautiful performances and fans from cheering on their favorite runners.The girls championship race was incredibly competitive and the top ten will be doing well in San Diego, California in two weeks.

The boy’s championship race had one of the best fields in Midwest history, with 30 boys at a conservative 5:00 mile, 20 at the 2-mile mark, and 15 at 200 meters.

The Midwest is taking two of its best teams in recent years to the FootLocker Nationals.

Highlights of the race:
Victoria Garces of Midland, MI and Juan Gonzalez of Fremont, NE won the Foot Locker.
Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional Today Garces, Midland Dow Senior
Jessie Jazwinski took the title in the high school girls’ championship race in 17:14.6.
Sr. Shelby (MI) finished second in 17:25.1 and Norah Hushagen, Sr.
Forest Lake, MN, third in 17:27.0 Top two finishers as well as today’s fourth
runner-up Emily Cohen of Englewood, CO, and fifth runner-up Libby Dowty of
Morgantown, IN, participated in last year’s National Championship event in San Diego, CA.
Fremont High School senior Gonzalez won the boys championship
race 14:58.8. Sean Fries, Jr. of Minnetonka, MN, second in 15:00.0 and
Ben Crane, a senior from Wilmette, IL, finished third in 15:03.3 with Gonzalez and Kruen
Today’s sixth place finisher was Benjamin Anderson of Highlands Ranch, CO
national championship last year in San Diego, California.
