Virginia Krause and Jack Grafeo take first in the 45th annual Foot Locker XC Northeast Region.


The Northeast region had two fantastic races, with some of the best preps in the East all fighting for a top 10 finish and a two-week trip to California. It was hot weather for all three regions on November 30th, and add Franklin Field to the mix and you have a historic cross country race. :

The top 10 boys and girls qualify for the national finals

Highlights of the race:

Virginia Krause of Bethlehem, MA and Jack Graffeo of Westford, MA won the Foot Locker Cross.
Today, the championship of the Northeast region. The race was held for the second year
Boston’s historic Franklin Park. Krauss, a junior at Moravian Academy, claimed the title
girls championship race 17:34.4. Zariel Macia of Shirley, New York is second
in 17:39.8, and Brooke Strauss, a senior from Glastonbury, CT, was third in 17:41.5
Two contestants in today’s race and seventh-place finisher Lilia Gordon of Chesterfield, New Jersey;
competed in last year’s national championship event in San Diego, California.

Jack Graffeo, a senior at Westford Academy High School in Westford, MA, won the title.
boys’ championship race with a time of 14:59.8. Tamrat Gavenas, of Andover, MA, a senior;
placed second in 15:15.1 and Sohaib Dissa, a senior from Newtown, CT finished third.
15:23.7. The top three in today’s race competed at the national championships for the last time
year in San Diego, California.

  • Larry Eder has been involved in the sport of track and field for 52 years. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now as a journalist. His first article on Don Bowden, America’s first 4-minute miler, was published in 1983. : Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the American version of Spikes magazine Content and Marketing Development for RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun On his daily pilgrimage with the sport, Larry says, “I have to admit, I love traveling to long distance meets, writing about the sport I love and the athletes I respect, for my runblogrun.com readers the most of anything I’ve ever done , except maybe running himself.” Also does some updates for BBC Sports, which he really enjoys.
