Have a question about your golf game? The short game boss is here to help.
“Hey, boss! I have officially received yps chipping and I do not have the confidence to hold a wedge. Help me!” — Phil G., Columbus, Ohio
It happens to the best of us, Phil. Do not despair – the stars are curable. The best advice is to drop whatever you’re doing right now and review the basics of your chip, starting with the setup. Find a video online of a Tour player’s field shot. Stop reel in setup and take a screenshot. Grab a wedge and get a friend to take a picture of you in the same position. (Both from the face on, by the way.)
Find out the differences and make whatever stance and club position changes you need to make your shot look like the pros. Once you’ve adjusted, try 10-yard pitches using your 7-iron—hold the ball just three feet and let it roll.
After nailing these down, go back to your wedges. Your new foundation is obligated to pay dividends.
