Urvil Patel smashes India’s fastest T20 century after going unsold in IPL auction 2025


Gujarat wicketkeeper Urvil Patel, who went unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction, created history during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Urvil Patel smashed the fastest century by an Indian cricketer in the match between Gujarat and Tripura in Indore on Wednesday. 27.

Urvil scored his first T20I century while chasing a target of 156 runs against Tripura. The Gujarat striker scored an unbeaten 113 runs from just 35 balls with the help of seven fours and 12 sixes. Urvil opened the innings with Aarya Desai and scored 100 runs from boundaries – 28 from fours and 72 from sixes. He broke Rishabh Pant’s record for fastest T20 century by an Indian. Pant scored a record 32-ball century against Himachal Pradesh in the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Patel’s century is the second fastest century in T20 cricket history after Estonian Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball century against Cyprus earlier this year.

Urvil Patel with Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 Season

Notably, Urvil Patel was signed by Gujarat Titans for Rs 20 lakh in the 2023 IPL auction. However, he was released ahead of the 2024 auction and went unsold at the base price of Rs 30 lakh during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction which took place over a two-day event in Saudi Arabia from November 24-25.

Prior to this match, Urvil had played 43 T20 matches, scoring 875 runs at an average of 20.83 and a strike rate of 154.32 including 115 boundaries and 26 sixes. He scored four half-centuries with 96 points.

In first-class cricket, Patel played six matches, scoring 158 runs with a top score of 60 at an average of 14.36.

On 27 November 2023, Patel scored a 41-ball century for Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh. He broke the second fastest Century List by an Indian.
