Lightweight prospect Curmel Moton (5-0, 4 KOs) obliterated an underweight Victor Vazquez (5-3-1) via a first round knockout Saturday night at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City.
The 18-year-old Moton backed up Vazquez with jabs and power shots to the ropes. He then unloaded with a four-punch combination that dropped Vazquez near the ropes.
Although Vazquez appeared to beat the count, the referee waved it off anyway. The referee probably realized Vazquez’s hopeless situation, so he stopped the fight without letting it play out for another takedown. The match was stopped in 55 seconds of the first round.
Moton showed excellent power and good hand speed in his performance. It would have been nice to see some fire back from his opponent, Vazquez, but he just couldn’t seem to pull it off.
Vazquez missed almost every punch he threw and looked like he was picked up off the street and thrown into the ring to be Moton’s punching bag. He showed no skills and was basically useless for Moton to gain experience by fighting him.
Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (33-7-3, 25 KOs) defeated Rodrigo Damián Coria (13-6, 2 KOs) in an eight-round victory in an exhibition bout.
