Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ trainer Kenny Ellis revealed the truth behind Keyshawn Davis’ desire for the title shot against the King of the Lightweight Division: It’s the money.
Ellis says that #3 WBC and #3 WBO Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) knows it will be “his biggest payday” if he gets a title shot against WBA champion Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), so he’s pushing hard to get that cash.
It won’t matter if Keyshawn gets blown out of the water by Tank, because he’ll be rich by Norfolk standards, and it’ll all be gravy from then on.
Keyshawn wants the tank payday
Coach Ellis says Keyshawn (25) is trying to distract the fans from his need to fight Cuba’s. Andy Cruzwho coached him in the 2020 Olympic finals, beating him soundly. Cruz has ruined Keyshawn’s chance to become an Olympic gold medalist, and he has repeatedly turned down the idea of fighting him in the pro ranks.
Cruz beat Keyshawn so badly in the 2020 Olympics that he seemed to lose his sense of reality afterward, celebrating as if he won the fight, running around the ring with his hands up. It was as if he was out of touch with what had just happened. Cruz dominated him again.
As Ellis points out, Cruz would RUIN Keyshawn’s chance to get a fight against the King of the lightweight division, Gervonta Davis. If Keyshawn is dominated by Andy Cruz, which is reasonable to assume, he will never be given that chance. Keyshawn would return from where he came, fighting second-tier fighters as he has continually done since turning pro in 2021.
“Even if he loses to Gervonta Davis, Keyshawn knows it will be his biggest payday. So he’s trying to sway everybody away from him fighting Andy Cruz because he knows Andy Cruz will blow his shot at Gervonta Davis, just like he blew his shot at the Olympic gold,” trainer Kenny Ellis said. Instagramletting his followers know what’s really behind Keyshawn Davis’ big push to get a world title shot against the King of the Lightweight division, Gervonta Davis.
“The casual fan doesn’t know what’s really going on. I hope the people in Norfolk, VA don’t follow for the fraud. :-). I’m sure the real men in Norfolk want Keyshawn to get that smoke back,” Ellis said of the knowledgeable fans who want Keyshawn to TRY to avenge at least one of the four losses he suffered at the hands of Cuban talent Andy Cruz suffered.
No lies were told by Coach Ellis in this Instagram post, exposing the real reason behind Keyshawn Davis wanting Tank Davis to fight so badly. It’s the money. From that fight alone, Keyshawn will be paid millions and will be able to buy a beautiful home in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.
Andy Cruz is waiting
Keyshawn must deal with his inner demons and face his conqueror, Andy Cruz, and just give it a go. At least it’s a path to a chance to fight tank Davis, because the direction he’s going now, he’ll never get that opportunity. Picking off slow guys like Gustavo Lemos from the 140-lb division is not the way to get a shot at Tank.
It won’t matter if Keyshawn’s career never amounts to anything because he will have made money from a fight against Tank. In other words, he’ll be another Edgar Berlanga and can walk around in the back of the truck, being adored by his Norfolk fans after losing to Tank.
If Keyshawn is competitive with Tank and goes the distance, he will be praised by his fans for giving him a run for the money. On the other hand, if Keyshawn gets blown by Tank, which is likely, he will be given a free pass due to his inexperience. He will get his participation trophy for tank fighting.
Tank will not receive any credit for fans because he chose an unproven fighter with a 12-0 record, filled with wins over all scrubs. Keyshawn hasn’t beaten ANY of the top 15 lightweight contenders during his professional career, not one.
