1. The 53rd TCS NYC Marathon was a fantastic example of how important competition is in our sport.

2. Sheila Chepkuruyi edged out Helen Obiri and Vivian Cheruyo in a battle that ended in New York. Chepkirui ran 2:22:35 over Obiri (2:22:49) and Cheruiyot (2:25:21). Master race.

3. Abdi Nagei wins NYC Marathon in 2:07:39 after DNF in Paris. Boston and New York winner Evans Chebet was second in 2:07:45. Albert Korir (2:08:00) was third with defending champion Tamirath Tola in 2:08:12 and Geoffrey Kamworor fifth in 2:08:50.

4. Top American women in New York. Sarah Vonn, who contracted the coronavirus three weeks ago, was sixth (2:26:56), Jessica McClain was eighth (2:27:19), and Kellyn Taylor was tenth in 2:27:59. Des Linden was 11th in 2:29:32, a very good race for Des.

5. Connor Mantz (6th, 2:09:00), Clayton Young (7th, 2:09:21) and CJ Albertson (10th), 2:10:57 in the Big Apple were the best in the US.

6. Remember that Fred LeBow brought the New York City Marathon to the Five Boroughs in 1976, it was supposed to be a one-off. In 2024, 55,6464 runners crossed the finish line in Central Park, making the New York City Marathon the largest in the world.

7. The Staten Island Running Association held its annual dinner on Wednesday night. Sports stars included Joan Benoit Samuelson, Steve Jones, Bill Rogers, Bob Beamon, Jim Spivery, Tony Steyning and Dave Wattle.

8. At the October 31st NYAC luncheon, Jeff Benjamin updated RBR that at the luncheon were Matt Centrowitz, Jim Spivey,

Joan Benoit-Samuelson, Tracy Sandlun, Bill Rogers, Dave Wattle. This is also an annual affair.
