Ezekiel Tovar hits for the Colorado Rockies, CCed by Liscense 2.0
Not making the playoffs can be demoralizing for a team, and nobody wants to play 162 games to go home early, but that’s how it works, this article will highlight expect the worst from these teams.
Colorado Rockies (61-101)
AVG: .242 (18-for-30)
SO: 1617 (29 of 30)
OPS: .704 (15-for-30)
Runs Per Game: 4.21 (19th of 30)
Period: 5.47 (30 of 30)
WHIP: 1.519 (30th of 30)
Runs Allowed Per Game: 5.73 (30th of 30)
Shots per 9:7.05 (30 of 30)
At first glance, the Colorado Rockies have a lot going for them. In all of the stats listed above, the Rockies did not finish 15th out of 30 teams. They had the second most strikeouts this season, and that’s no way to win in Major League Baseball. In the hitting stats listed above, the Rockies have never finished 15th out of 30 teams. This shows that they were unable to compete consistently with the top teams in the league and certainly did not make the playoffs. With the Dodgers and Yankees being similar teams with star power on both sides of the ball, there is no way to compete with them due to the lack of star power on their roster.
Pitching was a completely different story. There was absolutely nothing good or salvageable. The Rockies ranked last in all of them. They averaged more runs per game than they scored are some way to win 61 games. It says something about this roster that they can win without help from the starter. If for the Rockies pitching can improve in the offseason, then I would expect the Rockies to be closer to .500 in their win-loss record.
The Rockies have a lot of players and things to look forward to next season;
Players like Ezekial Tovar, Drew Romo, Jordan Beck, Michael Tolia, Nolan Jones and Adael Amador are all under the age of 26. Drew Romo and Jordan Beck made their MLB debuts this year and gained some major league experience.
Ezekiel Tovar had a great season for the Rockies and he looks to be a star in the making, hitting .269 with 26 HRs and 78 RBIs in 157 games , who looks for as much offense as he can get on tough pitches, Tovar’s numbers continued to rise as he built what he did in 2023 This season, his batting average and on-base percentage are all up from 2023. He’s another guy on this list with 30 HR potential. like many other young players on this team, his hitting percentage is.. He has 200 shots this season at a 31% rate. If that goes down and he can get more contact on pitches, Tovar could become another weapon the Rockies have in their offense.
Drew Romo only managed 51 ABs this season, and he hit .176.Although this is a small sample size, he had 6 RBIs out of those 9 hits It would be surprising if he became the Rockies top 3 RBI leader over the next few seasons. With the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Rockies Triple-A squad, Romo hit .297 with 60 RBI in 102 hits. That’s a nearly 60% RBI to hit ratio. If his Triple-A success can translate to MLB, he’ll be extremely successful.
Jordan Beck hit .188 in 170 AB’s this year.Although he had a bigger sample than Romo in his first year, he only appeared in 55 games this year.He was able to contribute 3 HR, 13 RBI, and did all of this with 32 strikeouts. His strikeout rate was about 38% in his 170 AB expected will decrease as he gets more ABs and more experience at the plate. In Triple-A, his strikeout rate was 25%, and that was in 174 ABs, almost as many ABs as he got in MLB this season. year. This is another example, if he can translate his skills to MLB, he should be more successful. I expect him to work on his approach in the offseason, so he can see more pitches per AB. In his 184 plate appearances, he averaged 3.58. This shows that he didn’t go deep in the pitch count. That can be attributed to having an aggressive approach at the plate. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There are a lot of successful aggressive hitters, most notably Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros, who swings almost every first fastball he gets.Jordan Beck should be able to swing at quality pitches. He only went 12 3-1 in a full season though , he still has plenty of time to build off of it.There is so much potential here that it could translate to the MLB.
Michael Tolia showed some promise this year, hitting 25 HR in 399 ABs.This was his first full season of action without being sent down to the Minor Leagues. His 42 of his 87 hits this season are undeniable went to extra bases, which is slightly higher than 48%. If he can become more consistent at the plate and work on his strikeouts, of which he had 147, I would expect him to easily eclipse 30 HR next season. Plus, he did it in only 116 games, so if he can get that number closer to 140 games, then he could get closer to 35 HR next season if he continues to improve. He was one of the few bright spots this year and had 2.2 WAR, which shows he should start consistently again next season. He’s hitting .210 from the left side and .236 from the right side. , which is league average last season, he could become one of the Rockies’ better players.
Nolan Jones struggled this year after his breakout season in 2023. He hit .297 with 20 SB and 62 RBI in all of these 106 games was his first real season in the big leagues. He hit .227 with 3 HR, 5 SB and 28 hits this year With RBI. He did it in 79 games and 256 AB. His struggles this season are likely to be known as “Sophomore slumps.” are going through a Sophomore slump and are now either All-Stars or are major contributors to their respective teams.I would feel that Will Nolan Jones look more like his rookie year in the 2025 season?
The Rockies have drafted very well in recent years and now have some amazing prospects projected to make huge impacts in the coming years. Charlie Condon, Chase Dolander and Zach Wynn are all projected to make their debuts next season with the Rockies, and we’ll be able to see if their prospect skills carry over to the Big Leagues.
Charlie Condon is coming off a Golden Spikes award-winning season with the Georgia Bulldogs and was listed at No. 3 over the summer Most outfielders should adjust to the Minor Leagues.Condon brings tremendous power to the Rockies farm system and could be a 30 HR guy if be good. His ability to play both third base and the outfield should help him move up in the minor leagues as long as his bat can stay the same as it was in college.I would expect him to start the 2025 season back in High -A, so the Rockies can see if he can improve on his average of 180 in 2024. I would expect that if his offense improvements happen the way everyone expects him to be.. in Double-A by the All-Star break.
Chase Dolander was drafted No. 9 overall out of Tennessee in 2023. This year was his first full season of pro ball, and he had a 2.59 ERA over 23 games in both High-A and Double-A he uses a high 90’s fastball, slider, curve and changeup. He only allowed avg to hitters this season .215 against him and is 6-2.As long as he can stay consistent with his off-speed pitches and misses, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make his MLB debut in the 2025 season. needs as much help as they can get, so his continued development is crucial to their future success, as long as the results he got in his first full season don’t diminish as he moves on is the Rockies farm, he has great MLB starting pitcher written all over him. His biggest criticism is his strike zone consistency. If he can hit the strike zone more, it will allow him to go deeper into the 6th. Overall, the Rockies have a lot to look forward to with Dolander, but this season will be crucial to see if he makes his debut. will it or not?
Zac Veen had perhaps his best pro season yet, hitting .258 in the 4 levels of the Rockies farm system. He hit 11 HRs this season and had 35 RBIs is slowly getting back to what we saw in his first pro season in Single-A, where he hit .301.He also managed 25 this season accumulate 21 SB as a result of the experiment. If he doesn’t make it out of spring training, I expect to see him back in Triple-A to start the season and call up major training next summer In the games he’s played in, he’s made an impact both offensively and defensively. He’s had a perfect fielding percentage this season, which is great for a team that’s consistent needs outside players. There’s a lot to be excited about with Vin. between his bat and his glove, I’d look for him to make a big impact on this roster and for him to compete for a spot on the big league team right out of spring training.
The Rockies have a lot to look forward to between their young core and their farm system. This team should be ready to compete in the next few years. The big difference is who they can sign in free agency in the agency.Look for them to have radar marks for both their starting tackles and the offseason.
