Star-studded field with 32 PGA stars, LPGA revealed for mixed events

If you’re aching for some PGA and LPGA Tour action as both tours wrap up their 2024 seasons, then a week in December should make you feel a lot better.

From December 13th to 15th, 32 top PGA Tour and LPGA Tour pros will duke it out in the second annual Grant Thornton Invitation. The unique event, which began last year, features 16 mixed teams featuring one PGA player and one LPGA player each.

It represents the only opportunity for golf fans to see the best golfers on the planet competing with and against each other for serious money: a $4 million purse.

On Tuesday, tournament officials announced the final 12 teams that will participate in next month’s event, and it includes some formidable duos. LPGA Rising Star Rose Zhang will join with Sahith Theegalaboth members of the most recent USA Solheim and Presidents Cup teams, respectively.

Fellow French professionals Matthew Pavon and world number 8 Celine Boutierwho both competed for their place at the Paris Olympics this summer, make up another heavy-hitting team.

World number 2 Lily Vu and fellow American Luke’s list are also featured among the 12 recently announced pairings.

They will join four star-studded teams that were previously revealed: the reigning champions Lydia Ko and Jason DayWorld number 1 Nelly Korda and Toni Finau, Lexi Thompson and Rickie FowlerAND Jeeno Thitikul and Tom Kim.

The event, which will be held in Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., for the second year in a row, features a unique format for the golf tournament. Players will compete in three rounds from Friday to Sunday. The first round will be played as a scrimmage and the second round will be a traditional foursome format.

The final round has a particularly interesting modified four-ball format where each player hits a tee shot, then they switch balls for the rest of the hole, with the lowest score in the middle counting.
