Liverpool manager Arne Slot accused Arsenal of wasting time during the 2-2 draw between the Premier League title contenders on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners took the lead at the Emirates Stadium through Bukayo Saka before Virgil van Dijk and Mikel Merino got on the scoresheet. They then lost Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber to injuries and Mohamed Salah struck in the 81st minute for win a point for the visitors.
The build-up to the Arsenal pitch was dominated by his injury problems and Slot said after the draw that he felt opposing players sapped the energy of the match by spending too much time on the floor, leading to his own booking.
He said: “Last time I said I fully deserved a yellow card. This time, I don’t think I did.
“There were so many times they were on the ground, which can happen so many times in football.
“I don’t blame them for that, but it always happened after they had possession of the ball. In my opinion, that took the energy out of the game. So I said to (Ibrahima Konate), ‘That’s a bad * ****g. joke’, and the fourth official thought I said ‘you’re a joke’, but that’s definitely not what I said.
“But I got a yellow for that and now I’m two and I have to be careful.”
Slot also picked up a yellow card in last week’s win against Chelsea and a further caution will see the Dutchman hit with a touchline penalty.
