Finding the correct positions during the backstroke is essential for you ball striking consistency. Everything you do on the backswing affects the movement of your club during the downswing, so it’s critical to have a proper backswing.
An easy way to root a proper background? Remove a page from Nick Faldo‘s book and try his “default workout”.
In the 1980s, Faldo went through a series of swing changes to get more consistency in his swing. During that process, he relied heavily on this preset drill to find the perfect backswing position on each swing.

During the backswing, one of the main movements you’ll make is hinge. When you do this, you can put the clubface in an optimal position and give yourself a nice power boost.
To execute Faldo’s default drill, all you have to do is stay at address and then hang your wrists in this set position before doing anything else.
Get into your normal setup and then hook your wrists in the position they would be at the top of the backbend. Get the shaft parallel to your target line and completely horizontal. From this position, simply make a full turn at the top of your backswing.
“As you can see, I have completed the return in a perfect position,” says Faldo.
Hit a few balls doing this default routine to get a good feel for where you want your wrists to be at the top of the backswing. Once you’ve drilled it, you can take your normal swing and easily find that position again.
