Midwest Birdie Fest continues this week in Silvis, Ill., While PGA Tour goes to TPC Deere Run for John Deere Classic.
This will be the last stop in the state before going through the pond for two weeks and the game of Open Scottish and the open championship. For the second week in a row, most of the big names have received the holiday week. For the most part, it is mostly the same area we had last week in Detroit, where Aldrich Potgeiter was kept outside Max Grayserman and Our selectionChris Kirk, in a Play off. This is three times now this season we’ve had one of our boys to reach a play off and lose – Jj spaun In the player championship, Justin Rose to the masters, and now Kirk. In Deere.
TPC Deere Run is a par-71 shorter, in just a few ticks below 7,300 yards. Former tournament and three-time champion John Deere da Weibring designed the course, which is now celebrating its 25th anniversary as the tour of the tournament.
Last week at Rocket Classic, we saw another bomber added to the champions list at that event. This week? Steve Stricker and Jordan Spieth have won here several times. Zach Johnson, Lucas Glover, Sepp Straka and Ryan Moore are all the last winners. Bryson Dechambeau, a bomber for sure, has won in both TPC Deere Run and Detroit Golf Club. This year’s defensive champion, Davis Thompson, is a big hitter who has also completed the race at The Rocket Classic-so it is really a mixed bag that has won here in the last 24 years. Straight roads are tied with trees, but also exhibit wide, generous landing areas. There is a lot of tight dogleg and a good amount of altitude change. Approximate is thick, so finding straight roads and greens will be very important.
There are many areas of the intersection between last week’s country and TPC Deere Run. I believe there is much less emphasis on the distance removed here this week and more on efficiency. From there, most of it is the same-Call it from 75-150 yards and stumble in a hot week with putter, and you can simply find yourself by raising the trophy on Sunday.
We mentioned the link between Detroit Golf Club and Deere Run. I also used Royal Liverpool and TPC twin cities as connected courses, as I did last week. This week, I added TPC Scottsdale – and we have also seen a great junction success with Colonial Country Club, host of Charles Schwab Challenge.
Chris Kirk (38-1)
Yes, we will go back again and jump back to the same horse again this week. We noticed last week that Small It is one of the best in the game with wedges from that window of the 75-150 yard. He runs it long and straight, and he is a former winner in Colonial. We have also noticed that he has three Top-20 conclusions in Detroit-now to go along with a competitor-and ended Top-30 in John Deere five times in seven appearances.
Lucas Glover (41-1)
humming The last time we saw it, three weeks ago in the travelers championship, shooting all four rounds in the 1960s. Like Kirk, Glover is one of the best in this field from 75-150 yards. It is also very efficient by tee, ranking 29th in this field for good discs gained during the past 24 rounds. He has been as high as the fourth in Detroit, seventh in the TPC twin cities, and in Colonial, Glover ended Top-25 twice, twice, and has a Top-10 conclusion, again in 2021, in the same year he won John Deere Classic.
Michael Kim (50-1)
Kim He is also a former John Deere Classic winner, grabbing high honors in 2018. He has been in a nice run since he has made 10 cuts, which includes three signature events and three main championships. He took 26th place last week in Detroit, and earlier this season he completed the race at TPC Scottsdale and 16Th in Colonial (where he was also sixth in 2023). He is another player in this field which is very strong from 75-150 yards abroad.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout (65-1)
A short game specialist, Bezuidenhout is not only a great place, but also one of the best players in the field from 75-150 yards. He ended up the race here in his debut in 2022. He was the fourth earlier this season at the TPC Scottsdale, and in his four trips to Charles Schwab to Colonial, he went to 16th, 17th, 21st and 15th.
Kevin Roy (79-1)
Roy was eight last week at the Rocket Classic, where he ranked third in that field for SG: Access and Fourth to SG: Tee to Green. During the past 24 rounds, he is the 11th in this field for SG: Ball Staring, the eighth for good disks earned, and the third for SG: par-4’s-and yes, it is also very good from 75-150 yards.
Sami Vali Maki (95-1)
Valimaki received last week in Detroit, shooting all four rounds in the 1960s. He was the 12th last year in his debut in John Deere, where he opened with a round of 61. He is great in approach and is one of the best placers in the game. During the past 24 rounds, Valimaki is the fourth in this field for birds or better acquired, it is eighth in the vicinity of the holes from 125-150 yards, and ranks eighth on SG tours: setting.
