Zimbabwe National Cricket Team They achieved a sensational feat in the history of T20 Cricket. The Sikander-led side broke the record for the highest team score in the shortest format of the game with a massive effort with the bat on Wednesday (October 23).
The Zimbabwe National Cricket Team has been successful in their ongoing match against Gambia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier B, 2024. The match between the two teams takes place at the Ruaraka Sports Club ground, Nairobi.
Zimbabwe post a total of 344 runs in 20 overs
Zimbabwe National Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bowl first. They came out all guns blazing and went after the Gambian bowlers from the start. They ended Nepal’s 314 runs against Mongolia in 2023 with just 344 runs in 20 overs.
The opening batting starts on a high with Brian Bennett (50) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (62). They went wild and quickly scored fifties for the Team. They added 98 runs in just 5.4 overs and put the opposition under pressure.
Sikandar Reza criticizes a cruel age
Dion Myers, batting at No. 3, failed to set the stage alight as he was in the hut after 12 runs in 5 balls. The real blitz came from skipper Sikander Raza, who continued his golden touch with the bat and made sure to cash in on the platform given by the openers.
He scored a relentless century all-round and ensured his team dominated the match. Raza remained unbeaten on 133 runs off 43 balls. He hit a strike rate of 7 fours and 15 sixes and looked in complete control.
Ryan Burle (25) and Clive Madane (53*) also provided good support to skipper Sikander Raza. Based on a magnificent effort with the bat, the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team posted a total of 344 runs. Andre Jarju picked two wickets for Gambia as all the bowlers were taken to the cleaners.
This was the second time in the history of T20s Cricket that the 300-run mark was broken. They and Nepal are now the only teams to achieve this feat. India came close but ended up with just 297 runs in the last T20I against Bangladesh.
