William Zepeda says he wants to “put on a show” to show the world he deserves a title shot next when he faces Tevin Farmer this Saturday, November 16. Boer is thrown to the young wolf Zepeda in front of him in the last hurdle. fight for a world title on February 22.
The 34-year-old Farmer is the former IBF super featherweight champion and looked good in his losing effort against Raymond Muratalla on July 13. He made the undefeated Muratalla work hard for a 10-round decision. If Farmer can do the same to Zepeda, he could derail his plans for a world title fight.
Zepeda needs to impress
Undefeated Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) needs an impressive win over Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) in their Latino Night fight to put himself in position to challenge Shakur Stevenson for his WBC lightweight title next out too late
In a blunder on Golden Boy Promotions’ part, they chose to put the Zepeda-Farmer fight in the card among two other fighters in which fans showed no interest.
The only fights that seem to have attracted fan interest from the Latino Night card are these two:
- William Zepeda vs. Tevin Boer
- Oscar Duarte vs. Botirzhon Akhmedov
The rest of the fights on the card this Saturday night got little fan attention, and for good reason. They are not the type that fans want to see.
No one wants to see the awful main event between Gilberto Ramirez and Chris Billiam-Smith or the co-feature involving shopworn former unified light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez taking on Arnold Barboza Jr. Golden Boy fight, the Zepeda vs. main event and place the Duarte vs. Akhmedov fight as the co-feature. The rest of the fights are meaningless compared to those two.
Zepeda farmer should be main event
“William Zepeda is in an interesting fight against former world titleholder Tevin Farmer, but it’s not even the co-main event,” said Chris Mannix. Golden Boy. “There’s a lot on the line for William Zepeda against Shakur Stevenson possibly on the line.”
“I think they made a mistake because Golden Boy wants to make sure he’s ready. So, I think Golden Boy is doing the right thing, knowing that he has to fight Shakur,” Tevin Farmer said. “Anybody else but me, they won’t do him justice.
“If he gets past me, which he won’t do, but if he does, he knows he’s ready. 100%, he won’t get to Shakur.
“We are focused on this fight. We know we have a potential title fight next,” Zepeda said. “We are ready to put on a show to prove we deserve a title shot.”
