Yuvraj Singh names India’s best captain, leaves out Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni

Former player of Indian National Cricket Team, Yuvraj Singh has been selected as the best captain of the team. He did not name Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly or MS Dhoni, but instead singled out Anil Kumble, saying he has a great attitude as a leader.

Yuvraj Singh was undoubtedly one of the greatest match winners for the Indian National Cricket Team. The all-rounder played a major role in the time’s success, especially in white-ball cricket, but also played a decent role for the team in Test cricket.

Yuvraj Singh, despite battling cancer, did his best and helped out for the team India The National Cricket Team won the ICC World Cup in 2011. He was named the team’s MVP in the tournament as he won the Player of the Tournament for his heroics with the bat and ball. Not only this, he also played a major role in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Yuvraj Singh made his debut under Sourav Ganguly and later played under MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. However, according to him, none of the above were the best captains of the Indian National Cricket Team. Instead, he went on to pick Anil Kumble.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire YouTube Podcast, Yuvraj Singh revealed how Anil Kumble was cast in Australia. He explained that the leg-spinner always wanted to put himself in difficult situations and pointed out that his attitude was similar to that of Ricky Ponting. He elaborated:

“When we came to Australia, Kumble became the Test captain. I thought Kumble was the kind of guy to take the ball when the situation was tough, not give it to another guy or let me get the ball when the wickets were falling.

“So I thought that kind of attitude is great in a leader. So I’m talking about Ricky (Ponting) going into battle when the going gets tough because he has the mentality of a leader, whatever the situation is, he’s ready to fight.”

Yuvraj Singh talks about the difference between MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly in terms of leadership

Yuvraj Singh also spoke about the difference between MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly in terms of leadership. He noted that the Southpaw is more aggressive, while the wicketkeeper-batsman, on the other hand, has a plan B.

He also mentioned that Sourav Ganguly along with the other players gave him a lot of confidence as he knew that they would win the Indian team. He elaborated:

“Sourav was more aggressive, trying to take teams head-to-head. What I liked about Dhoni was that he always had a plan B. If plan A doesn’t work, go to plan B. Very different captains.

“I took the side when Sourav was captain. He gave us a kind of confidence and a lot of chances because we were younger, we weren’t consistent. Sehwag Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) and Zaheer Khan like myself. He stuck with us a little bit because he knew these guys could be match-winners in the future.”
