Your lead arm can be destroying your swinging – here is how to fix it

Most players misunderstand the role of lead wing. You have been told to keep it straight, but not rigid. Connected but still wide. Active, but don’t overdo it.

Somewhere in that mess, there is probably the right answer. This video from Performance golfEric Cogorno and fame hall instructor Rick Smith explains a simple exercise that you can use to correct the position of the lead arm.

The most common receipts of lead arm errors make players

While not holding the lead arm straight, tends to attract all the attention, it is not the only mistake players are making with the lead arm. Others include:

  • Raising the wings away from the body during the back.
  • Start of landing with wings, not the body.
  • Loss of pressure between the arm and the torsa very early in the back or landing.

What the lead arm MUST I DO

The above video talks about the classic handle under the arm training, which you may have seen before.

However, this version goes beyond the basic connection. Rick Smith explains that it is not just about holding the handle in place. Has to do with understanding when to apply pressure. Here’s how to do the handle training with the added concentration in pressure.

  • Put a golf glove under your lead arm armpit (upper bicep area)
  • on configurationsFeel a slight squeeze between your upper arm and chest.
  • As you Start BackswingMaintaining the same pressure.
  • IN PASSING, increase the pressure Little, which helps the wings work down as the body rotates.
  • through INFLUENCEKeep the connection alive a little longer, and the gloves can fall away.

Why does this (and who helps)

I have tried this exercise and love how it gets all the mechanics focused and change it to feel. This is something that works well for my game, and I very much recommend it. In addition to being just a good hit of the ball, here are some other things that work well to fix:

  • If you sliced: You are likely to disconnect early and pull the ball. This exercise promotes a shallow, more inside trail.
  • If you connect: This helps you to rotate through the impact instead of slipping your hands.
  • If your game is contrary: Using your luggage and keeping a stable beam, you improve the location of the strike and the repetition of the oscillation.

Rick Smith says in the video, “Every time I have a exercise that is fixing eight things immediatelyI know it’s a good one. ”I agree with him.

Final thoughts

If your oscillation feels in opposition or you are sick of steep slices or useful hooks, check your lead arm. The chances are, you are breaking too early and trying to recover the rest of the road down.

Glove drill keeps your arm in the right place, simplifies your movement and gives your shake a better chance to repeat under pressure. Most importantly, This teaches you how to feel pressure at the right timenot just where to put the handle.
