‘You’ll make it worse’: Arne Slot gives worrying update on Liverpool’s injury double

Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes goalkeeper Alisson could be out for “a few weeks” with a hamstring injury, while giving an update on Alexis Mac Allister’s fitness.

Alisson made some vital saves to help Liverpool to a 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

However, the Brazilian goalkeeper limped off in the 79th minute to be replaced by Viteslav Jaros, with regular support Caoimhin Kelleher suffering from illness.

Known to be somewhat injury-prone, this is the second time alone this season that Alisson has succumbed to a physical problem after missing two games with a thigh problem in September.

But it wasn’t just Alisson who was forced to leave for Selhurst Park. His injury came after Alexis Mac Allister was withdrawn at half-time, replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai.

Naturally, Slot was quizzed about the fitness of both players in his post-match press conference, and reporters wanted to know Alisson’s prognosis.

Followers will be worried about their manager update.

“The last thing is that we don’t know, but what we do know is that if a player leaves like he did, it usually means that he is not in the Brazilian team and I don’t expect him to be in the team for the first game that we play after (the international break),” Slot said (via Official Liverpool website).

“We’ll have to wait and see, but I guess it’s going to take a few weeks for him to come back. I think it’s (his hamstring).”

Slot was then asked about Mac Allister, with the Argentine’s status a little less clear than Alisson’s.

“He left because of an injury, but it’s hard for me to judge how bad he is at the moment,” the Dutch coach said of his midfielder.

“He could have kept playing, as you saw, because it wasn’t a second before half-time, but he felt it a bit too much and said he didn’t think it was good to keep playing because you never know if you’re going to do worse.

“Now, what is the exact situation, can he go to Argentina? Can you play there? It’s hard for me to tell you now.

“(It’s a problem) in his groin area.”

Liverpool’s next game is at home to Chelsea after the international break.
