Yavi 8:44.39 by WR, Nugent 12.24
ROME (ITA, August 30). The penultimate meet of the Wanda Diamond League, the Golden Gala, set a near-world record as Olympic champion Winfred Yavi missed the 3000m personal best by just 0.07 seconds. Another world leader is Akera Nugent with a 12.24 100m hurdles, and another meet record by Ryan Kruser in the shot put (22.49). The final DL match before the finals is scheduled for September 5 in Zurich.

200 m. Win for Brown 22.00 (0.4) from battle (22.27).
1500 m. The fast pace (by Nanyondo) was not accepted by the leaders, Kipyegon dominated in a still fast 3:52.89 ahead of Hailu (3:54.16 PB) and Haylom (3:54.79).
Steeple. A night race as Chemutai led at a very fast pace in the first kilometer but was clearly outscored by Yav in the final lap; Yavi missed the world record by just 0.07 with an 8:44.39 WL/MR/AR, Cemutai is second (8:48.03 NR and third all-time) ahead of Cherotic (8:57.65), Constien (9:04.92) and Bouzayani (9:04.92). 9:04.93, NR for Tunisia).
100 m hurdles. An excellent race by Nugent who won in 12.24 (-0.4) WL/MR/NR to equal the fourth fastest performance ever, Russell second (12.31).
400 m steeplechase. Cockrell’s surefire win in 52.59, his second best time ever.
Pole vault. Kennedy won by a stroke over Morris, both clearing 483, a season best for Americans, both failing at 493, Kennedy clearing 495 on his third attempt.
Long jump. Davis-Woodhall 702 (0.1) to Nicholls 682 (0.0).
Men
100 m. Tebogo confirmed his form and won with a 9.87 (0.3) over Coleman (9.92) and Kerley (9.95).
400 m. Samukonga held the lead in the final stretch to win in 43.99 ahead of James (44.30).
5000 m. Not as fast as planned, the Ethiopians dominated with Gebrhivet clocking 12:51.07 to beat Kejelcha (12:51.25).
110m hurdles (non-DL). The surprise of the match, because Zhoya beat Martinez (13.27) with a score of 13.18 (0.4).
High jump. Counting back to Wayel Bedford, both 230, a PB for the Jamaican, Tambery is joint third with Doroshchuk (both 227).
Triple jump. A. Diaz took an early lead with a score of 17.32 (0.8) and beat Max Hess with a score of 17.01 (-0.2).
Shooting. Victory for Kruser with 6 22m attempts and a meet record 22.49 ahead of Fabbri (21.70) and Otterdahl (21.63).
Discussion: The Czech outclassed his rivals in the final attempt with a massive throw of 68.61, after only finishing in the top 3 for the fifth time in the series. Stona (67.85) led from the second attempt, Alekna finished third (67.68).
