Yarde’s best chance against Benavidez is an early knockout

Lyndon Arthur believes Anthony Yarde’s best chance to defeat WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez on November 22 is to knock him out early. Arthur says that if underdog Yarde (27-3, 24 KOs) fails to stop ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) early, it’s a “difficult task.”

  • Abdullah Mason vs Sam Noakes

In other words, Lyndon believes that Yarde’s best chance to win is to go for the break early, only to empty his gas tank straight away on November 22nd.

Morrell took the fight out of the monster

Benavidez comes into the fight after a grueling war against Cuban David Morrell on February 1, 2025, and there’s a chance his head is still reverberating from the big shots he was hit with in that fight.

Morrell stopped Benavidez in the 11th and had him on his feet in the 4th after clocking him with a right. In round 2, Morrell staggered Benavidez with a straight left to the head. Those shots may have taken enough out of Benavidez to make him vulnerable against Yarde, who has similar power but a limited gas tank due to his bodybuilder’s physique.

It’s already a nearly impossible task because Yarde, 34, hasn’t worked at the same talent level as Benavidez during his career. Plus, Anthony did literally nothing to deserve a title shot against Benvidez.

Turki’s surprising choice of Yarde

Yarde operates at the UK domestic level. Turki Alalshikh officially announced the Benavidez-Yarde fight on July 3, 2025. Fans believe he chose Yarde. It is unclear whether he explored other possible options, such as Olympians Arlen Lopez, Ben Whittaker or Imam Khataev. It would have been more interesting for fans.

Arthur sees a difficult task ahead

“Benavidez isn’t as tall as I thought he was standing next to Yarde, but I still think it’s a tough, tough task. I still believe Yarde has to get him out there early if he’s going to do it,” Lyndon Arthur said. Pro Boxing Fansgives his thoughts on the David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde fight on November 22nd.

Well, if Yarde knocks out Benavidez on November 22, we’ll know why. Morrell took the best out of ‘The Mexican Monster’ and left the shell that Yarde would have chosen clean.

No size edge at 175 for Benavidez

Since Benavidez moved up to 175, he hasn’t shown the same power he once had when he campaigned at 168 from 2013 to 2023. Without his large size advantage that he has become accustomed to having in super middleweight, Benavidez is not the same person.

In his fights against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15, 2024 and Morrell, Benavidez lost his power. He also took a lot of punishment in both fights. His face looked like a Halloween scare mask after those two contests, puffed up, looking nothing like he did when they started.
