Xander SCHAUFFELE snaps victory drought with baycurrent win

With his mother’s grandparents who look personally and a minor boy waiting at home, Xander Schauffle placed a bright lid in one Otherwise the dark season Winning 2025 Baycurrent Classic in Japan.

His 64-year-old Sunday at Yokohama Country Club was his first victory in 15 months. And it gave him an additional reason to celebrate in a place where his family’s roots run deep.

Max Greyersman, last year’s competitor at the event, repeated that role, wrapping up a blow back as he followed his first PGA Tour title. Rookie Tour Michael Thorbjorsen, who joined Schauffle and Greyersman in the final group of Sunday, ended the third, three strokes back.

“I was very nervous,” Schauffle said. “It’s been a year since I was even watching to win a golf tour. I was probably just as nervous as they were because I’ve done it before and I had to dig a deep kind in my memory to do it again.”

Victory marks a memorable moment for Schauffle in what was a different year. Avoid from an injury to the ribs in early 2025, he never regained the form he showed in 2024, when he won two degrees and set up in no. 2 in the world golf rankings. Although the Subpar game shocked his confidence from time to time, Schauffle said he would get positive away from this year’s Ryder Cup, where he won three points in a lost US effort and beat Jon Rahm on Sunday.

“I thought in the Ryder Cup that I played quite strong,” Schauffle said. “It is a lot of high stakes, high -pressure golf and I started hitting some shots I wasn’t really hitting all year.”

In Baycurrent, Schauffle looked even more like his old himself while playing in front of some popular faces. Some family members were in the crowd, including his 81-year-old grandmother, who walked the course with her. Schauffle’s mother and mother -in -law both grew up in Japan as well as His wife, the topwhich is half Japanese. Although he was born and raised in southern California, Schauffle said he felt attached to Japan from an early age.

“I’ve come here since I was about 9 years old to visit my grandparents,” Schauffle said. “I fell in love with this place a long time ago.”

Return home to SH.BA, Schauffle’s family is bigger than it would start the year. Just over a month ago, he and Maya welcomed their first child, a milestone that came up with a change in mentality.

“Mentally, I definitely felt different,” Schauffle said. “I’m a young father. He’s just more than six weeks, but yes, it’s weird. I would do nothing for him. This part is mentally thought out of everything that – I really haven’t identified exactly what is.

Over time, Schauffle said, he plans to do for his son what his parents do for him.

“I can’t wait to bring (it) here when he is old enough to understand and appreciate the culture in Japan,” Schauffle said.

Meanwhile, he had a local holiday to attend, though a gentle.

“Just a big union, just a few drinks,” said Schauffle. “You’ve seen many of my family members not age to have any alcohol, so just a few drinks with family and decompress a little.”
