WSL Top 3 Teams: October 2024


It has been an exciting start to the 2024/25 Women’s Super League season and the fixtures in October did not disappoint.

There were some significant victories, among them The triumph of Chelsea at Arsenaland the classification begins to take shape. Manchester City leads the way as things stand, but rivals Manchester United and Chelsea do have a game in hand.

At the other end of the table, West Ham, Everton and Aston Villa are still waiting for their first wins of the campaign. They all sit on two points, but the Hammers’ goal difference puts them in 12th place after five games.

The league is now preparing for the intense race of games in November, however 90 minutes have evaluated the performances of each team in October and ranked the top three…

Brighton had a strong start to the season in September and were tipped by many as this year’s surprise package. It’s fair to say they maintained this good form throughout October with seven possible nine points.

The Seagulls took points away from United with a 1-1 draw and wins at both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. There will be bigger tests for Brighton, but things couldn’t have gone much better in the opening months of the season, and they are already in contention for top spot.

A list of the top three teams could not leave out the current league leaders. Despite having played a game more than their opponents, all Gareth Taylor’s side can do is control their own results and they are doing a remarkable job.

October was not without setbacks either. City were the first to concede in two of their three games last month, and it could have been all three if not for an incorrect offside call.

The good news, though, is that they were able to fight back in each of those games and keep winning. As they say, when a team is winning despite not being at their best, it’s a possible sign of a champion.

Chelsea remain the only WSL team yet to drop a point. They have won all four games so far, including two in October against London rivals.

The caliber of opposition places the current champions at the top of this ranking. They went to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and came away with a 2-1 victory, driving Resignation of Jonas Eidevall in the process They also beat Tottenham at home 5-2.

As for the start of the season, things could not have gone much better for Sonia Bompastor’s side. November will be tougher with huge games against City and United on the horizon, but Chelsea’s form in October has put them in a strong position ahead of a huge month.
