All five franchises – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, royal rivals Bengaluru and UP Warriors – have finalized their squads after intense bidding wars and dramatic twists. A combined ₹ 41.1 crore, if the 18th slot is filled by keeping 18 players ahead of the teams. 40.8 crore from a pool of 277 players (194 Indians and 83 Indians) in total, 67 cricketers were selected, highlighting the league’s growing financial strength and talent pool.
Deepti Sharma stole the limelightBecoming the first woman in WPL history to cross the 2.5 crore mark twice. Up Warriorz matched the (RTM) card for ₹ 3.2 crore following a fierce tussle with the Delhi Capitals. New Zealand Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine, Sophie Devine Close to 2 crore from Gujarat giants in Early Marquee Bidding Fury. Other big signings, Australia’s Meg Lanning (₹1.9 crore, upw), Laura Wolvaardt (₹1.1 crore, DC) and England pacer Lauren Bell (₹90 lakh, RCB), have added to the company’s batting, spin brilliance and pace squads.
The auction had its share of surprises with the World Cup winning captain Alyssa healy goes astray 50 lakh despite a base price. Uma Chetry, Tazmin Brits and Alana King were also not without arguments about changing market dynamics. Up Warriorz – Armed with the biggest purse (₹ 14.5 crore after one catch) – was auctioned by Sophie Ecclestone (₹ 85 lakh through ₹ 85 lakh) and Phoebe Litchfield (₹ 1.2 crore). Mumbai Indians reunited with Shabnim Ismail (₹ 60 lakh) while RCB bolstered their attack with Nadine de Klerk and Radha Yadav (₹ 65 lakh each).
With the WPL 2026 season scheduled from January 9 to February 5 with Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, the stage is already set for an intensely competitive edition. Franchises will turn to their next captaincy decisions and pre-season training camps, with high standards and excitement as the league enters its third year.
