World Cross preview for Team GB
Great Britain will field a team of 20 athletes 2026 World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, 10th January UK Athletics stated that the team selected had to fulfill the policy objectives; achieve team medal success, support senior athletes in preparing for future world track success and provide opportunities for junior athletes to develop.
The event takes place immediately after the European Championships in Portugal Team GB won six medals.
The most famous athlete is probably Megan Keith, who won a silver medal at the last Eurocross and was 10 years old.th in the 10K in Tokyo in the summer.
With Phoebe Anderson, Verity Ockenden and Poppy Tank joining Megan Keith, the team should be competitive in the senior women’s race. The senior men’s team includes Rory Leonard, who finished 17th at the European Cross Country Championships, and Matthew Ramsden, an impressive sixth in the under-23 race in Portugal just before Christmas.
Returning from the historic 2024 medley bronze medalists are Alex Millard and Adam Fogg, who were part of that successful quartet.
In the junior race, Alex Lennon, who was the first Briton at the Europeans to finish 15th in the under-20 race, will join Michael Clarke. who finished 18th in that race despite losing one jump in the first round of the race. The women’s junior team includes: Eliza Nicholson and Zara Redmond, who were part of the European Under-20 gold medal winning team. Innes Fitzgerald, who won the European U20 for the third year in a row, will not be in Tallahassee.
Team manager Luke Gunn, who is also Hannah England’s husband, explained his expectations. “We have selected a team that reflects our commitment to success, aiming to step onto the podium at this event and give talented youngsters the opportunity to gain invaluable experience as they build for future success.
