The new regulations follow the recommendations of the working group approved by the Board approved by the Council in March. The category of women’s athletes is defined by the rule of 3.5, which states that only the following athletes can compete in this category.
a. Biological women.

Transitional provisions do not apply to transgender women, as the current regulations are competing at an elite international level.
World Athletics adds that the regulations of the category of new female athletes, which enter into force on September 1, will be made with the following obligations:
• World Athletics does not judge or question the gender identity.
• World Athletics respects and preserves individuals’ dignity and privacy.
• World Athletics strongly notices privacy obligations and meets data protection laws.
• World Athletics has never had and has never imposed any commitments to undergo surgery.
