The wait is finally over! The fourth edition of the book Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to light up the stage starting tomorrow, January 9, 2026. After the Mega Auction in New Delhi last November, five franchises finalized their rosters and the landscape of the league changed dramatically.
This season brings big shakeups – none bigger than this one Meg Lanningmoves to UP Warriors and Rodrogus vote also takes over the reins of captaincy Capitals of Delhi. With hours to go before the first ball, let’s take a look at the WPL 2026 squads and the captains leading the charge.
WPL 2026: Tournament structure
The 2026 edition of the WPL follows a defined and high-stakes double round format. All five teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriors, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Giants – will face each other twice in the league stage with a total of 20 matches. This year’s competition adopts a two-legged ‘caravan’ model: the first half of the season will be played in Navi Mumbai, before the action moves to Vadodara for the business end of the tournament.
The top team in the points table will qualify directly for the Grand Final on February 5. Meanwhile, the second- and third-placed teams will battle it out in a high-pressure ‘Eliminator’ game to determine the runner-up, with each net-run-rate calculation ensuring the group stage remains crucial right down to the last ball.
