Cole Palmer’s sensational hat-trick powered Chelsea to a comprehensive 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux Stadium.
Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer delivered a masterclass, securing all three points for the visitors on a cold February night. His individual brilliance defined the Premier League encounter, leaving the home side frustrated.
Heading into this Premier League clash on February 7, 2026, Wolves found themselves in dire straits. Placed at the bottom of the table, they were desperate for a vital win. Chelsea, however, arrived in good form, sitting comfortably in fifth place and eyeing the European standings.
Chelsea asserted their dominance early on, controlling possession and probing the Wolves defence. Their persistent pressure paid off in the 13th minute when Cole Palmer calmly converted a penalty, sending the ball past José Sá.
The young England international wasn’t finished. Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 35th minute, confidently converting his second penalty of the game. The spot-kick punished another failure in the Wolves defence, extending the visitors’ lead.
Just three minutes later, in the 38th minute, Palmer completed a sensational first-half hat-trick. He expertly guided home a pinpoint pass from Marc Cucurella, showing his clinical finishing. As the half drew to a close, Wolves’ Adam Armstrong was shown a yellow card in the 45+4th minute for a wrong tackle.
At half-time, Chelsea held a three-goal lead, which completely set the pace of the game. Wolves faced a monumental task to mount any sort of comeback, needing a drastic improvement in the second half.
Wolves came out with renewed determination after the break, making a first tactical change. Matt Doherty replaced Rúben Gomes in the 46th minute, indicating an intention to inject more urgency into his game.
Their efforts were soon rewarded in the 54th minute when Tolu Arokodare scored for the home side. The Nigerian striker headed home an assist from Adam Armstrong, giving the Molineux faithful some hope.
Chelsea responded by managing the game, highlighted by the substitution of hat-trick hero Cole Palmer for Alejandro Garnacho in the 61st minute. Marc Cucurella was later shown a yellow card in the 73rd minute for ball handling, a small blip in Chelsea’s disciplined performance.
The final quarter saw both teams introduce further substitutions, with João Pedro and Josh Acheampong entering the fray for Chelsea. Although Wolves pressed for another goal, the visitors held firm, seeing the game out with professional composure.
The match statistics clearly illustrated Chelsea’s superiority throughout the match. They boasted an Expected Goals (xG) figure of 3.16 compared to Wolves’ 0.99, along with 67% possession. Chelsea had a total of 15 shots, with 6 on target, to Wolves’ 10 shots and 3 on target.
This decisive win cemented Chelsea’s grip on fifth place in the Premier League standings, strengthening their challenge for European qualification. For Wolves, the defeat deepened their relegation worries, keeping them firmly at the foot of the table with little room for manoeuvre.
