Oakmont, without. – Hello, friends and happy Tuesday from We open!
I’m not going to lie, things set off for a rocky start here in Pennsylvania. It seems to me that i lost glasses somewhere in Oakmont roughthat is a bumper because I’m on the road for two weeks and I need them in order to get behind the wheel. Soon forward to this morning and the hotel iron completely burned the pants I was planning to wear on the course. But then I jumped on the ship 7 in the morning and things started looking up (a barista station in the media center helps). I had a quick breakfast at the media center, which easily oversees the range, then headed to move to nine ahead with my associate and Paul, James Colgan.
I was also a little stars from the church Pew bunkers and I had to stop taking a quick photo.
Then it was time to meet Sila, the first reporter of the Junior course, to show him the cords for the day. Silas is a 10-year-old from the area that is a self-proclaimed “Nerd Sports” and just had the perfect day in Oakmont.
range
After our presentations and getting Mic’d up, Sila and I headed to the range so that he could see the players warm up and ask them some questions along the way. It was his first time inside the ropes in a golf tour and he was in complete fear. A safety guard by the range raised the rope so that it can walk under it, and taking to bring people inside the ropes is always one of the highlights of work for me because it reminds me of me JUST How delightful this job is. This is my fourth We openSo sometimes I forget how unusual it is to have a concert, where you have to walk to the best players in the world and watch them hit balls.
Silas came prepared for the day as well. He had over 40 printed and adjacent questions to his notebook and looked like an experienced veteran there, as he asked Michael Kim, James Nicholas, Aaron Rai and Jt Caddy Aaron the two questions each. He decided to ask a light -hearted, fun and more serious question. I remember felt like my heart would explode and I was talking in a shaky voice the first time I interviewed a professional, but if Sila was nervous, he hid her very well. After each interview, he would shake the player’s hand and thanked them for their time.
Walking and conversation
Next we headed to the first TeE so that Sila could have a walk and talk interview with Gary Woodland. Woodland was playing along with Keegan Bradley and Brian Harman, and that trio could not have been more polite. Silas walked in the hole with Woodland, asked him a host of questions including the highlights of his career, his favorite foods and what he thinks of the course.
Soon, both were talking about their shared love for basketball and NFL. The group invited Silas up to green to hit a few strokes and he got to see the first hand how quickly the greens are rolling here in Oakmont. I was already a Woodland fan, but seeing how engaged it was with Sila made me even bigger.

Press conference
Silas had four goals for his day at Oakmont. The first was to eat a great breakfast. Next was to get Rory’s autograph. Third was to get inside the ropes, and the fourth was to meet Bryson dechambeau. At the end of our day together, it was time to check his fourth and last goal off the list. We left for the Dechambeau press conference on 2 afternoon, we sat down first and waited for Silas to be called. He got the last question of the oppressor and here’s how the interaction went:
Silan: You have successfully recreated the golf game in many different ways, both inside and outside the course. How do you want to remember?
My Guiea: What excellent question, first. Excellent work. Second, I hope I can inspire children like yourself, who will become a gentleman one day, children like themselves to play golf, understand how excellent this amazing game for developing relationships is, and hopefully inspire to play professionally and go out here and compete for an open US. That is my goal. This is what I hope many of us are here to do, but I know it’s what I want to do. So hope I can do this for you and all your peers.

After the press conference was over, Dechambeau walked straight to Sila, shake his hand and told him what excellent work he did. Silan was falling, and I remembered how lucky I am to be here doing this job.

Article
Silas will write an article on the August number of Golf Magazine, so keep an eye on this. At the end of the day, we headed back to the media center to unite a sketch for the story he will write in his experience as a first -course reporter of Sentry Tee Junior. We talked about the realization of each article on his own bucket list, all the players he met and how he felt. Sila reported that he felt grateful, inspired and excited, which very much summarizes my emotions in large championships.
