William Scull gives Canelo Alvarez a ‘75% chance ‘to defeat Terence Crawford on September 13 at their collision at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Former IBF super-middleweight champion Scull says that Canelo’s natural size and experience give him an advantage over Crawford (41-0, 31 food). He mentions that Crawford, 37, has a disadvantage that after just one fight at 154, he raised in weight to challenge Canelo (63-2-2, 39 COs) at 168 for his undisputed championship.
Scull knows what it’s like to fight Canelo, after losing a unanimous decision of 12 rounds earlier this year in Riyadh. At 6’2 ″, the Cuban Scull had the size, hand speed and combination punch to force Canelo to fight more carefully than he usually does. I believe Crawford does not have the hand speed, power, mobility or combination punishment that Scull had, which would hesitate to run off.
An error in preparation
“Canelo comes down a few pounds, and Crawford comes to the fight to fight Canelo. Maybe he would have had a little more experience on the weight. Fight Hub TVand his thoughts on Terence Crawford’s chances of defeating undisputed super -middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford’s decision to dress size without testing it with an institution at 168 could harm his chances of winning. He had his reasons not to use the time to take a warm-up fight at the super-middle weight. The Scull and WBC Junior Middle Weight Champion Sebastian Fundora believes it was a mistake for Terence not to get some experience at 168 before fighting against Alvarez.
The weight class factor
‘Canelo would hit him before the 12th round. It will surprise me if Crawford has won this battle. There is a disadvantage of the weight classes. If there wasn’t, it would be a 50-50 match. These fights in this weight class certainly benefit Canelo. I say there is a 75% chance of winning the fight, ‘says Scull.
The variables that Scull overlooks are Crawford’s age and inactivity. Size is not the only problem Crawford can stop winning. It is his age, combined with the chronic inactivity he has had for the past four years since 2021.
The age and discharge problem
Terence turns 38 on September 28, and it is not young for a fighter who comes from a 13 -month dismissal and moves two weight classes. It would have helped if Crawford had moved up to 168 and fought some contenders in the year he was out of the ring. It would still not have helped Crawford. He would still be a 38-year-old.
“Crawford, though he looks stronger, he really gets a lot in weight. He can go in and out, which benefits Crawford against Canelo. The most important thing here is not to be in the middle of the ring because Canelo will definitely have the benefit. He will be stronger,” Scull said.
Crawford’s power could increase with the weight he was gaining, but would it be enough to keep Canelo off? This is the question. Canelo will be on the attack with its own heavy shots, which is where Crawford can have problems.
