Back problems are back for Will zalatoryis.
Fresh by a lost cut in last week PGA championshipThe 28-year-old underwent surgery on Friday to repair two hernia discs and will lose the remainder of the FedEx Cup season, including the last two diplomas.
Zalaatoris announced the news on Instagram on Monday, saying he expects not to act until the fall. The procedure is a dejá vu for Zalaatoris, which was removed for eight months after a microdiscectomy in spring 2023.
“Hey everyone, sharing a health update,” Zalatoris wrote in his post. “This spring, I began to feel an embarrassment on my back that worsened progressively. After the PGA championship, one MRI indicated that I had redefined two discs. After discussing options with my medical team, I underwent surgery last Friday with Dr. Michael Duffy at the Back Texas Institute.”
In a tournament with new talent, Zalatoris made an early statement in his six -top 10 career in his first nine great beginnings. He rose inside the No.7 in the world rankings and was running the FedEx 2022 Cup race when back pain forced him to leave the BMW championship. He underwent his first surgery next spring after retiring from 2023 masters and did not return to competition until early 2024. Despite the long break, he quickly showed signs of his old form with a T2 conclusion at 2024, three strokes after winner Hideki Matsuyama.
However, that summer, the pain returned, this time in his hip, an injury that increased it throughout the year. In offseason, hoping he would better prepare his body for the ear and lot of the PGA Tour season, Zalatoris added 20 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-2 wire frame.
Before Monday’s news, 2025 had been a mixed bag for Zalatoris. At 12 stars, he ended up as high as the T12 in the American Express. But he lost the weekend in both Master and the PGA championship, and now will be lost We oPen and open championship as well.
However, in his Instagram post, Zalaatoris hit an optimistic tone.
“I’m happy to say I woke up feeling well (after surgery) and excited about my long -term back health,” he wrote. “Time to focus on my recovery and get back after it. We look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!”
