There is an old saying: “The third time is a charm!” Will it finally be Amanda ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano’s victory will come to Madison Square Garden on Netflix against IBF, WBC, WBO World Super Lightweight Champion Katie Taylor on Friday night?
Former IBO and WBO World Featherweight champion lost against lightweight and super lightweight against Taylor, and if he has a third opportunity, it feels her third time and a win for her.
In their second meeting in November last year, all three judges scored 95-94 for Taylor, who lost a point due to a head that was in round eight.
39-year-old Taylor and 36-year-old Serrano know each other very well. In April of 2022, Taylor won by a split decision in defending her IBF, WBC, WBO World Lightweight Titles in Madison Square Garden against Serrano.
Eight months for that, Serrano defended her IBO, WBC and WBO titles, weighing in August 2021 124 and defeating Yamileth ‘Yeimi’ Mercado, who will be on this Friday’s map against IBF, WBO and IBO Super Bantamweight Champion Ellie Scotney in a united title, with the Mercado WBC champion.
After defeating Mercado, Serrano, in a non-title match in December 2021, Miriam Gutierrez defeated Spain, who previously lost two fights against Taylor. Serrano weighed 139 ¼, for that match, and fifteen pounds jumped and lost a split decision to Taylor.
Come Friday, Taylor, 24-1 with 6 stopping and Serrano, 47-3-1 with 31 stops, will fight for Taylor’s super-lightweight titles again. Serrano had a limited amateur career and won the New York State and New York Empire State Titles. Taylor, on the other hand, was 170-10-1 in the amateurs and the Olympic gold medal in 2012, and lost in the second round of the 2016 Olympics after receiving a bee in the first round.
Taylor’s only loss was at Chantelle ‘El Capo’ Cameron in May 2023, and the re -broadcast won six months later with both fights in Dublin, Ireland, ending with majority decisions.
Serrano’s other loss was of Taylor, was the Frida ‘Golden Girl’ Wallberg of Sweden, who was stopped in her next fight and retired. Serrano avenges her draw to Ela ‘Bam Bam’ Nunez, who later defeated three fights.
Will it be Serrano’s time for the win or favorite Taylor who defeats her a third time? This is the eighteenth title fight of Taylor. She fought in the US six times, and I met her in Philadelphia in March 2019 when she defeated the previously unbeaten Rose Volante of Brazil, which retired with a record of 15-1 in 2020.
Taylor was very nice to talk to and nice enough to have a photo with me. She is not known for her power, with only 6 stops, she is rarely in a bad battle. On the other hand, Serrano, with 31 Stop, is known for her power and will have a puncher’s chance. Fan’s will look forward to this one who cheered their hometown favorite Serrano.
