Fringe contender Dillian Whyte insists Anthony Joshua still has “a lot left” in his game, despite being knocked out by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in his last fight.
Of course, Whyte’s attitude can be considered self serving because it’s no secret that he still hopes for a profitable rematch with Joshua. A Joshua-Whyte rematch from their 2015 fight would bring in plenty of PPV buys in the UK.
With Whyte’s share of the pay-per-view revenue, he could walk home $6 million to $12 million for a second battle with Joshua. As such, it’s no surprise that Whyte talks about Joshua having a lot left when the reality is very different.
Joshua probably won’t waste time with a fight against Whyte because he can make more money fighting Tyson Fury and a trilogy with Oleksandr Usyk. The boxing public worldwide does NOT want to see a Joshua-Whyte rematch in this lifetime.
American fans won’t want to see a rematch between Whyte and Joshua, but the British public will love this fight. They don’t give up on washed out fighters like Americans do.
Joshua has lost four times since 2019, losing to these fighters:
– Daniel Dubois
– Oleksandr Usyk x 2
– Andy Ruiz
Joshua, who recently turned 35, was more than adequate in his loss to Dubois, falling four times in his fifth-round knockout loss on Sept. 21. AJ doesn’t look like he has anything left and could get hurt if he chooses to take a rematch with the 27-year-old Dubois.
“He’s still got a lot left in the tank, and he’s still a big draw. And as you can see in the fight, he’s still a big puncher. He had Dubois going before Dubois landed the finishing blow,” said Dillian Whyte Sky Sports News about Anthony Joshua.
“He is young, strong and looks in incredible shape. He still has a lot of fight left in him.”
Joshua can still make money fighting selective opposition in the Saudi programs and in the UK, such as Tyson Fury. But putting Joshua in with Dubois, Martin Bakole or Zhilei Zhang would be a bad idea and won’t end well for him.
If AJ wants to keep fighting to generate money, he could do so well into his 50s and possibly as a billionaire. Joshua’s net worth is estimated at $220 millionwhich could rise to more than $400 million after two fights against Tyson Fury.
Given Joshua’s huge popularity and his punching power, it is quite realistic for him to become a billionaire if his promoter, Eddie Hearn, selectively suits him in the next six years.
