Throughout my life, I have always been serious about my sunglasses. I still remember buying my first pair, in high school, at the Armani store in Cabazon, California. What a feeling! Then, in college, fired from my summer job, I bought a pair of Chanel encrusted with rhinestones. I circled and tossed them around for weeks before pulling the trigger. Wearing them made me feel like a million bucks, but I was always afraid of losing or damaging them in some way.
Over the years, my taste gravitated more towards function over form. I became a mother and my sunglasses became baby toys. They often slipped or caught on my head, and routinely fell, scratched, and damaged seemingly at once. I realized I couldn’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on designer frames when I couldn’t reliably maintain them.
Needless to say, I no longer own any Chanels or Armanis. Instead, I’ve been on a near-constant search for stylish yet affordable frames that feed my need for fashion but won’t give me heart palpitations every time they step out of the car into the parking lot.
That’s a lot of history to make this discovery: Earlier this year, I received some samples from a new brand of sunglasses: WMP glasses. (WMP stands for (W)orn and (M)ade with (P)urpose.) The frame styles were exactly what I’m always looking for: trendy and slightly oversized with a subtle cat-eye shape. They are lightweight and durable with crystal clear lenses. I was an instant fan.
In the months since I got them, each pair has been incredible and I’ve worn them absolutely everywhere, including the golf course. They are very comfortable, even under a hat. And even though I’ve dropped them dozens of times, somehow, I’ve yet to find a scratch. And the best part? They are available at a price that does not make them feel too precious. For the price of a “designer” pair, you can get a half dozen or more cool styles from WMP Glasses.
I have worn their lifestyle designs, but they have also golf specific optionsendorsed by the US Open champion Wyndham Clark.
In short, I was thrilled to find a brand that ticks all the boxes when it comes to what I look for in a pair of sunglasses to wear both on and off the course, and if you’re in the market for a new pair of shades, I’m confident you’ll find a style you’ll love too.
